We had three glorious chances after that to win it but didn’t take one and it went straight to penalties. We felt very confident as we’ve practised penalties regularly in training and the lads came through superbly, we scored all our penalities and Oscar Jansson saved two, so we went through 4-2.”

This is arguably the world’s best youth tournament and we’re in the semi-finals, so that says it all.”

He’s an Under-16 player out here with us and he capitalised on some good work from Paul-Jose M’poku to score the fourth goal. We saved the best until last as Adam Smith came forward from the back and hit a 30-yard shot that just flew in. We couldn’t have asked for more so far, particularly defensively. To keep four clean sheets in four games at this level and in this heat is a fantastic achievement.”

We made the breakthrough about 15 minutes into the half when Jon Obika found Ryan Mason and he found the corner with a great finish. We controlled it more and more from there and defensively we were excellent against a lively front three. We scored the second goal 25 minutes in when Kudos Oyenuga broke down the right and picked out Ryan Mason who finished well again. It was a very, very proud moment, the opening game in such a famous stadium against the hosts, the Mexican champions, with a partizan home crowd. The lads were well aware of the history of the stadium and they rose to the challenge. It has to be one of the highlights of everything we’ve done so far as an Academy.”
